DRUMCHAPEL UNITED 3

Anthony McCourt (1)
RIDDRIE VILLA 2

The young drum side maintained there 100% league record with a hard fought 3-2 victory over Riddrie Villa for the 2nd week running. With only 3 minutes gone in the game Drummy went 1 nil up when Johnny Dyer got back to scoring ways when he tucked the ball past the diving Riddrie keeper. Drumchapel then went to sleep for the rest of the 1st half and let Riddrie back into the game when there excellent No 9 turned at the half way line and burst clear to score a wonder goal for Riddrie. They then added to this after some slack marking at the back and deservedly went in at half time in the lead.

Half time Drumchapel Utd 1 V Riddrie Villa 2

For the 2nd week in a row harsh words were spoken by the coaching staff at half time to the young drum side with Colin McCormack coming on to help provide a bit of dig in the middle of the park for Hamil. The boys rolled up there sleeves and dug into there reserves and after battling for 25 minutes of the 2nd half deservedly equalised after a game of pinball in the box. The ball fell to Johnny Dyer who duly dispatched the ball into the net. The game was now and truly with the Drum and they capitilised on this with some fine play down the left by McCormack and Jenkins saw the ball break to Anthony McCourt after some desperate defending by the Riddrie defence big Anton then stepped inside the Riddrie defender and curled the ball beautifully into the corner of the net.

This then saw some poor scenes at the side of the touchline with one of the Riddrie coaching staff letting himself, his own team and that of Riddrie Villa down with some unsavoury behaviour. This was a game that both sides battled from the 1st minute to the 70th with some very strong challenges but not at all played with any malice. Well done to the boys for a great battling performance. C'mon the Drummy.

Coach's Comments
We made life hard for ourselves again after taking the lead for the 2nd week and ended up going in 2-1 down at half time. I am really proud of the boys as they showed how much they wanted this in the 2nd half with some very big performances from Gregg Peebles, Colin McCormack and MOM Christopher Jenkins, but this is a team game and the boys all battled from the 1st to the 70th especially in the 2nd half the defence were so much stronger, the midfield closed much quicker and the forwards looked dangerous. The boys need to add the quality they have to this resiliance and they will go far this season. Well done the boys and keep up the good work C'mon the Drum.
