ABOUT THE TEAM

Welcome to DRUMCHAPEL UNITED 2001's section of the club website, we where formed in the summer of 2009.

INFORMAL SEASON REVIEW...

In season 2009/10 Drumchapel United played their football in the DFDL, Dunbartonshire Football Development League. Although scores are not recorded at this age level I can confirm that Drumchapel had a magnificent first season playing 33 league games, a big thank you to everyone involved in the DFDL for contributing to such an exciting first season for the Drum.

In January 2010 the boys picked up their first experience of tournament football participating in the 'KILLIE CUP' at Power league in Kilmarnock, this proved to be a valuable learning experience for the Drum as we played against teams from Ayrshire.

In early April 2010 a coach load of 36 people departed sunny Drumchapel for Blackpool where the team were participating in the Blackpool Cup, our boys played some entertaining football and came home with the Blackpool Plate. A GREAT ACHIEVEMENT! WELL DONE BOYS!

In late April 2010 the boys also took part in the Ardencaple Cup down at Hermitage Academy, this tournament was played in good spirits and the club were delighted to accept the invite to take part.

We would like to extend a warm welcome to Baillie Spencer, who recently joined the club from Blair Thistle.

Towards the end of the season our team took part in the FIRST EVER DRUMMY CUP at the Donald Dewar Leisure Centre on Saturday 19th June 2010, the players done very well.

On Sunday 20th June the club had their presentation night, all the kids received a trophy, certificate, medal and fridge magnets as a reward for a fine first season. A great night was had by all, on the night those present had the opportunity to experience the first viewing of the Blackpool DVD!!! Superb night.

Football teams running costs are HUGE, special thanks to our sponsors for season 2009/10, Ramsays Garage, Jim K's Gents Barbers, Pat Burgoyne Dentists, G&W Window Cleaning, Lesley Banks Catering and COERAN Drafting Ltd.

The parents of the players within the team deserve great credit for pulling together and making their contribution this season, thank you for all your efforts over the past season!

A fantastic first season for Drumchapel United has seen a great deal of high's and a few lows, the players have acquitted themselves very well in their first season as a football team and have experienced a great deal which will hopefully stand us in good stead for the future, the amount of opportunities these kids have had since coming to the club has been substantial, experienced coaches from the SYFA have put the team through their paces at Toryglen, the SFA's new regional development centre.

Playing an exciting brand of passing football has seen the club complimented on numerous occasions, which has also lead to arguably two of the best players in the league coming to join the Drum and make the squad even more competitive, the club welcome David Terris and Baillie Spencer.

From the good sometimes stems the bad, the club are sad to see the departure of coach Gerald McAllister, who will be leaving to take up an exiting job opportunity in London, Gerry has made a substantial contribution to the club and although we are all sad to see him leave, Gerry does so with out best wishes - Gerry is a fantastic human being and it has been a pleasure knowing and working with him over the past season - WE LOVE YOU GERRY!!! HAHA

For the 2010/11 season Drumchapel United will be joining the Glasgow and District Youth Football League, this will be a huge step up in standard and the players will need to work even harder to maintain the incredible standards previously set.

Exiting times are on the horizon for Drumchapel United FC, COME AND PLAY THE DRUMMY WAY!!!

WHO ARE WE??? DRUMMY!!!
