Drumchapel United were formed in 2001 but many will remember them as Cardross Rock A.F.C.or Knightswood Amateurs F.C.
John Black was currently running Drumchapel Star and an approach was made to John to amalgamate both clubs and rename the new club Drumchapel United
.
The team currently ply there football skills in The CENTRAL SCOTTISH AMATEUR FOOTBALL LEAGUE in the Pemier Division on a Saturday Afternoon,muted to be one of the strongest leagues at Amateur level within Scotland.
John has been involved in amateur football for almost 20 years as a manager, and due to John`s easy going attitude and nature he has been able to attract a lot of promising youngsters and experienced players to the club.
Although Drumchapel United is a young team historically, through John`s hard work and perseverance he has now established the club to be one of the giants of the Amateur game.
Since the club has been established we have had players called up to The NATIONAL SQUAD within The AMATEUR set up since season 2005/2006 to present date no less than 3 players a season and already for the season 2009/2010 there are 2 players in the squad.
The season 2007/2008 the team won the treble by claiming the West of Scotland Cup, the Cinema Cup as well as the Premier Division Championship.and In season 2008/2009 the team retained The Central Scottish Amateur Football League Premier Division Championship.
The clubs biggest achievement to date was winning the biggest honour in Saturday Afternoon AMATEUR FOOTBALL in Season 06/07 THE SCOTTISH AMATEUR CUP at Hampden when they defeated CUPAR HEARTS from FIFE 1-0 a goal scored by Alex King.
The club have also competed in FOUR WEST OF SCOTLAND CUP FINALS in a row winning three of them from seasons 2004/2005 through to season 2007/2008.
The club have also supplied various players to play with The Central Scottish League Select team, to take part in The John Smiths Inter-;League competition involving the Scottish Amateur and Ayrshire Amateur League Select teams.
Hopefully the forthcoming season can bring further success & trophies to the club, to bring more recognition to the club.
