Drumchapel continued their winning league form with another narrow home victory at Blairdardie. The home side started the brighter in a tight game with both sides using their physical ability to try and get the better of each other. Kenny opened the scoring after neat play on the right by McNicol using his frame to hold off the defender before picking out Kenny who slotted the ball into the net. The lead should have been increased but a teasing corner by Kelly was missed by everyone as it whizzed across the 6 yard line. McNicol was finding a lot of space in the middle and from one of his crosses Kenny just failed to control inside the area. Around the middle of the half the game was levelled. A corner was met by a free header at the back post and fell to the forward 4 yards from goal who headed past the helpless Campbell. Poor defending but the away side were now back in the match. The forward line of Thorniewood were causing all sorts of problems for Drumchapel's back line with the tall striker showing his physical and arial ability and his partner with the pace and movement off the ball. Despite this M Docherty and particularly Kerr dealt with this fantastically. Drumchapel's defensive problems were coming from the wide areas with two attacking players playing the wing-back roles. Gilmartin replaced the injured Kelly and immediately used his presence to create a number of chances via flick ons.
Campbell replaced Murray at half time and the performance of the home side did up for the second period. The late challenges still continued and the referee dealt with each very well. Smyth had a shot from distance which the keeper just managed to touch to the side and to his relief saw the ball return to him from his right post. Gilmartin was next to test the keeper with a superb header but the keeper matched it tipping just over. Drumchapel re-took the lead with a superb through pass by Campbell releasing Kenny who controlled very well before drilling home what proved to be the winner. A third goal was still required to kill the game off but despite an excellent pass by K Docherty through to Kenny, the striker could not convert to claim his hat-trick. Despite not being an out and out goalscorer, Kenny has shown at the start of the season that he is ready to weigh in with his fair share as he is now only 5 or 6 goals off his tally from the whole of last season. Shaw returned to the side after a 4 week lay-off replacing McNicol. His throws continued to caulse problems with Gilmartin proving to be a hand-ful inside the area. Again it was not a convincing display from Drumchapel but it was another 3 points that keep them on the maximum available before going into the next two cup weekends.
